Hi, I've been away for several years. I own Dress Shop Pro 7 (at least I think so) and am thinking of upgrading to MPD. However, I have never, despite even going to a workshop, been able to get the measurements correct so that pants will fit. Is there any help with measuring etc? I am in contact with one educator but she doesn't seem that interested in doing this anymore. I remember Kaaren used to offer some sort of workshop in the Las Vegas area. Is that still going on? Thanks for any info. Susan

Yes, you can get measuring help on line by emailing me. Or you can come to me and get measured- leave here with a mark, measure, torso sloper and pant sloper that YOU approve of. I'm In Henderson, Nevada a suburb of Las Vegas and about 20 minutes from the McCarran airport. I also offer 3 and 4 day, one on one workshops- first day is the measure and slopers then we delve into the programs. Details by email for both patrns4u@aol.com Kaaren patrns4u@aol.com

Hi, Kaaren -- Another question about measurements just occurred to me...Is there a difference in the way measurements are taken for DS and MPD2? Or are they the same? I'm sure there are probably differences in the way they are used but am hopeful that the same measurements, measured in the same way, are required for both programs?

THere are a few differences but not many. The charts themselves are different. The arm hole is much easier to balance in MPD as both a front and back armhole depth are used and it is not dependant on the side length for balance. The crotch also forms differently though you use similiar measurements for the crotch lengths. There is NO body depth measurement. The program calculates the extensions based on a percent of hip which is much more accurate. If you export your patterns from DS to MPD the chart you have displayed will also export and rewrite itself to fit. You can adjust armhole and crotch lengths in the complete chart which you can view by checking the complete chart box under file and settings. Regards Kaaren patrns4u@aol.com

While we are talking about importing our DS measurement charts into MPD I have a question. I have DS PRO with all the bells and whistles and the basic MPD program. I am wanting to import my pants pattern from DS into MPD. I remember someone saying we needed to zero out certain measurements in our measurement chart. Can someone please tell me which measurements that would need to zero out. And do we do that in both the DS measurement chart and then again in the MPD chart when it is imported there? After I do this will this give me the famous MPD pants fit everyone has bragged about? Or do I have to purchase MPD to actually get same fit? Thanks, Rena

When you export a chart with your patterns the chart will enter into MPD. Should you then adjust either crotch lengths, hip measurements or floor to waist measurements, I suggest you zero out crotche xtensions and curve breaks so the program can recompute them. DO not change your DS chart prior to export. Kaaren patrns4u@aol.com

Thanks Kaaren! It has been over a years since I have been able to sew. Needing pants bad, so I thought I would try using the MPD profile. Hopefully I won't have to do too many adjustments. Be Blessed! Rena

How do we zero out our crotch extensions and curve breaks in MPD? Thanks everyone for all the help, I hope to have a pair of pants sometime soon. This is my first time working with MPD and I am totally confused. Either that or I am not holding my tongue out in the correct position.

This is For MY Pattern Designer ONLY- first make sure you can see the complete chart go to file settings and put a check next to complete charts. second go to size and complete chart look down the middle column to just under the front and back crotch lengths. There are 4 boxes you do NOT fill in.They are crotch extension front, back and front and back curve breaks. The program computes these amounts for you. When you change floor to waist measurements, floor to hip, the front and back hip measurements or the crotch lengths you are changing the balance of either the extensions or the curve breaks or both. Simply highlight the number for each of these values enter 0 and save the chart after making all your changes. This forces the program tro recompute the extensions and curve break positions again. Kaaren, Thanks. Really appreciate the immediate response. I will go to MPD and check it out.

Hik Kaaren I got measuredy yesterday and inputed all my measurements into Dress Shop. I then exported all my dress shop patterns into MPD2 basic. I then imported my measurments in MPD2 and the computer indicated that this had been done. When I went to load measurements in MPD2, however, the only files showing is the default measurements for one of the sizes that I had used earlier. My new file Susan 10 10 08 isn't showing to be loaded. Any ideas? Thanks Susan
