Ok, I asked the question about reformatting my computer and then re-installing DS 7.04. I have now had my hard drive totally reformatted and ev everything was working fine for a day. I then went to the download and re downloaded DS 7.04 and the whole problem started all over again. My windows screen flickers constantly, I have lost the sound again, and all of my programs are going crazy and disappearing, why is this happening? I talked to the my son who reformatted my computer and he has absolutely no idea why this happens when I download the update from the website. Can you offer any suggestions to aid me with this? This never happened when I had IE6 and used DS6.19 IE 7 Win. XP I have no patterns activated right now | |||

All I can tell you.... 1. IE7 has been out for over 2 years ago (October 2006). No customer has reported (to us anyway) that it was in any way related to infections, viruses, or damage to a computer system. This is a very mature browser and is unlikely to be the cause of any problem on your system. 2. The current build of Dress Shop was posted in December. There have been no problems reported with it causing any system difficulties or with any virus issues. 3. I just re-downloaded the current Dress Shop master. I used a Microsoft utility called "SmartScreen" to check it during the download and it reported no problems. After the download, I did a virus scan on it using McAfee and there were no viruses, trojans, worms, or any other form of malicious software found. 4. I then installed that current build and had no difficulties with my system. I'm not seeing any problem with either the current Dress Shop nor with IE7. Wild guesses of where you look next: 1. You just reinstalled Windows on your system. Did you use an old disk? Did you get the most recent updates from the Microsoft web site? There have been enumerable updates related to system security that come out regularly. You need to be sure you have the latest ones to be at all sure that your system can avoid the latest threats. 2. Not enough memory. Low system memory can lead to some of the symptoms you described as the system churns, writing memory to and from the hard drive virtual memory. 3. Hard drive flaws. If you have defective sectors on your hard drive, they can cause unpredictable effects when software is installed onto them and then fails to run properly. Did you do a disk scan after reformatting? 4. I presume you have a virus scanner. Late model? Reputable source? Did you do a scan after you reinstalled? 5. Your "programs are disappearing" suggests that you have installed other software. Are you certain they are all safe? That's all that comes to mind from the description you provided. I don't really know what "going crazy and disappearing" means, so it is hard to come up with theories for those symptoms. Sorry, but this does not appear to be a Dress Shop issue. I too am having problems with DS 7.04. I run Windows XP with IE7 and only get a small screen in the upper left hand corner. I have emailed livingsoftnw 4 times now and have no response, probably because of the death in family. I have tried downloading the launcher for the ie6 in case it would assist, however it does not. Can anyone help me with this issue? As for the fluctuations you are having with your system, sound like you are having a conflict with your location of the DS program. I had a similar one when I tried putting it within a file I listed as "sewing" on my machine. DS had a conflict with the software I had installed for my Futura embroidery machine. It would cause my computer to flicker, freeze and then go blank. Totally stumped me for a long time. Have you tried running your Accessibility Wizard in your Accessories file? If you installed it once and then installed again without it adding the program rather than overwriting it, it will also cause a computer conflict. Just a suggestion. | ||||
