Program is running really slowly

HI,
My computer crashed recently and I had to re-install DS. Did that with my CD.
I could not access the Livingsoft website with my program,or update, so I installed the master download then updated from the website which gave me another DS icon on my screen, so I deleted the original install ( !!! ) obviously the program did not run, so I re-installed again from my CD. Should I do it all again in the correct order as my program is working but is very, very slow.
I have two DS icons on my computer screen, should I have? I guess they are both the same. I am now running DS V5.31
Feel really stupid!

Hi Trisha,

If you see version number 5.31 in your About box, then you have the latest version (of Dress Shop 5) working and you need not install anything more.

About the 2 desktop icons, just select one and press your "Delete" key and let it go. That will not delete your program, just a link on your desktop that you use to find and launch your program. The other link you have is quite enough.

Two other issues:

1. If you ever had Dress Shop 6 and now you do not - that is just an activation code issue. Enter your Dress Shop 6 activation code and all should be well. If you have never had Dress Shop 6, then never mind. ;-)

2. If things are running slower now, that is not an issue with your installation sequence. Some other problem with restoring your system after the crash. Hope you can find it, but there are way too many possibilities to discuss in just one email.

Good luck...

Bob: When I go to Add or REmove Programs in my controls area of my computer, listed there are DressShop Icons which list 5 or 6 updates. Is it okay to remove those, all but the latest and the one that says "master"? I hate to do any "removing" without permission! Michelle

Hi Michelle,

3 issues here:

1. If you uninstall any update, it will remove some files that are needed for Dress Shop to run. Every update includes the same files, with later and later changes. So, removing an early update will also remove the later copy of those files. Not good.

2. If you really want to clean up, you can remove them all, then reinstall just the latest master you have, plus the most recent update. Then, you will have only the two entries in your "Add / Remove Programs" list.

3. But, that really is not all that useful. The "Add / Remove Programs" list is just a list. All of those Dress Shop installations and updates take up exactly the same hard disk space as would be used by just the latest one, installed by itself. You will not free up disk space. You will only make the "Add / Remove Programs" list shorter. Frankly, I would not do it for just that reason.

But, uninstalling and and reinstalling the latest will not hurt anything. The uninstall process DOES NOT remove your measurements, settings, or activation codes. Those have to be deleted manually. As long as you avoid manual deletion, you can uninstall and reinstall as you like.

Hope there is enough info here that you can decide what you prefer...
