Now that the new Men's line is out, I would like to find some sources for men's fabrics. I am looking for the twill and other fabrics to make shorts, walking shorts and slacks. Also some striped fabric for men's shirts too. What is the name given for that kind of fabric - dobies, or oxfords or something like that? Does anybody have sources for this type of fabric? I have had some success with http://www.wazoodle.com for pant fabric, but I am looking for a wider variety, especially for walking shorts. Thanks, Linda Flint

Linda I think your right about the fabric using oxford is a popular one for slacks, then there's dobbie or 100% cotton for shorts. What about going to a reputabel tailor and ask to buy some off his bolts GGGG.You never know there eh? Hi Linda Oxford is for shirts. Shirt fabric is also appropriately called shirting fabric and is "usually" 60" wide when I have seen it. In the fabric store I work in we also have some nice microfibers in now and some sanded twills that are really nice. Corduroy should be coming soon. We also have some fabric that's called suiting which is a nice bottom weight. Try going to fashionfabricclub.com, fabric.com, fabric depot.com, denver fabrics.com etc. etc. the list goes on and on and on.

Here's a variety of references for sewing for men. The Custom Tailor Made Dress Shirt (long article) http://www.ravistailor.com/customtailor/The_Custom_Tailor_Made_Dress_Shirt.htm Who of us would have given thought to thinking of a man’s face as a portrait and his shirt collar as its frame? This idea, and many more, may inspire us to put a little more advance planning into designing and sewing for the men in our lives. Glossary of Popular Cotton Shirt Fabrics http://www.fabricofourlives.com/FabricSmart/ShirtGlossary/ The Carol Harris Company http://www.carolharrisco.com/ This was referenced in Sew News for fine-wale corduroy (sometimes called baby-wale or 21-wale), but it also has shirtings and other fine fabrics. Silk Road Fabrics - English Pima Cotton Broadcloth http://www.srfabrics.com/cottons/othercotton.htm Quality Dress Shirts Made Just for You http://www.execshirts.com/dress-shirt.htm This source explains the difference in fabrics used for quality dress shirts. Also has links to “measure yourself” or “measure your existing dress shirt” which might be a consideration when sewing long distance. Just keep in mind the ease already built into a RTW shirt if you’re entering numbers into a DS measurement chart. http://www.denverfabrics.com/pages/static/fabric.htm http://www.fabric.com/apparel-fashion-fabric-shirting-fabric.aspx http://www.flannelworld.com/index.php http://www.timmelfabrics.com/ (Canada)
