I have DS8 Pro and Doll Shop Deluxe so I have both human and doll measurements that I have done. When I load a doll measurement set I'm currently getting some weird looking patterns. Should I move my doll measurement sets to the folder that has the doll Shop measurement files or do I need to wait for something that is coming in the updates? The patterns and measurements worked okay in DS7. Thanks

First, putting a measurement set in some other folder will not change how it drafts. Charts loaded from the doll charts folder are not treated any differently from any other chart. They load, they draft. Will weird looking patterns be fixed by some coming update? That is rather difficult to predict, not knowing the pattern, in what way it is weird, nor whether or not the issue is with the chart being used. So, let's just say "no". Did pattern drafting change between DS7 and DS8? Absolutely. That is generally why updates are done. Will that mean that some changes in charts may be required? Absolutely. When you first ran Dress Shop 8, you should have seen a huge notice to that effect. All pants patterns are quite different and old chart values for crotch extension and center back dart width are likely to need revision. Doll charts are particularly sensitive. A quarter inch difference in a human chart is not going to distort a pattern, but a quarter inch for a doll chart could. Did doll charts change any between DS7 and DS8? Absolutely. We redid every single chart extensively to make them work better with the drafting revisions that had occurred during the past 8 years since those charts were last adjusted. In those years, there have been many changes to the drafting logic of virtually every pattern in Dress Shop and Doll Deluxe. Dress Shop patterns of a decade ago were less fitted and drafted with collateral ease that many users took advantage of. Having lots of excess ease in the draft meant that inaccurate measurements would still work - the clothing woutl be loose, but you could get it on. Collateral ease is far less now and a chart that was perfected using the slopers of 8 years ago is not going to draft the same - chart revisions will be required. There are no updates in the queue with which we intend to take the drafting logic of Dress Shop / Doll Shop back a decade. We also have no plans or means to update or adjust charts that were made by others for dolls we do not have. Dress Shop / Doll Deluxe is an evolving product. Patterns get added. Fit gets better. New features are included. If you want nothing to change, then you should not indulge in updates or upgrades. If you wish the better patterns and newer features, then you have to expect that there may be changes to your charts to work with these changes to the patterns. In the past, some customers have manipluated their charts in their attempts to coerce some particular pattern shape or fit fix from the Dress Shop engine. The 8" Ab Depth that you use in your own charts, for instance, is not anything you got from the Dress Shop user manual, but something you did to try to force a shirt pattern to do your bidding. Measurement values that do not follow Dress Shop rules and conventions may someday do strange things to later patterns. When we release a pattern that assumes normal Ab Depths and your version of that pattern blows up, then it is time to fix your chart. I do not know if you have similar adjustments included in your old doll charts, but I do know that if a current pattern drafts well with a current standard doll chart, then we are not going to be fixing that pattern and you will need to find the correction by reworking your chart. I figured out what happened. The body type box in the measurements table had lost its setting somewhere along the way. I reset it and the problem went away. Thanks anyway.
