I'm using Activewear and using the swimsuit pattern which says that the seam allowance defaults to 1/2. When I check out the printed pattern, it isn't 1/2 ALL the way around the pattern. Even if I go in and make the seam allowance 1/2 and save the pattern with 1/2 inch seam allowance = the printed pattern still has areas where some of the seam allowances are more than 1/2 inch. Should this be the case?

Cut lines Vary, stitch lines are correct on seam allowances. Seam allowance widths do vary especially on curves.
Strongly suggest you always spend a few moments in patetrn preparation checking seam widths and correcting with a pencil.

So I need to correct from the cut line in? Not from the stitch line out?

To true the seam line, I use a rotary cutter with the little measureing arm. I set it to 5/8 inch (or what ever you prefer) and follow the stitching line all the way around. Then I know each cutting line is 5/8 inch.
