I am trying to help my mother in law get her Dress Shop working properly. When she opens it up, she gets an error message regarding the active x controls, that they may not be enabled or blocked. I have enabled all active x controls, uninstalled both Dress Shop and Internet Explorer 8, set the Trusted Sites and Local Intranet levels to a custom level of low. Still no luck. Very frustrating, we have to have 30 or 40 garments done before the middle of March!

Please send me your mothers name and registered email address. You don't mention which version of the program she is using. I don't see how active X and or Java is required for Dress Shop- Only the quite old version of Hat Shop. Kaaren patrns4u@aol.com

That information has been sent. It really has me quite baffled, since I am a technical support agent.

I am going to wait for Bob to weigh in on this. I am unclear from your report what program is creating the script error. It may not be coming from DS but happening when DS is running. The normal suggestions- use a registry cleaner such as Glary- which we know found here: http://download.cnet.com/Glary...2086_4-10372101.html or any other registry cleaner. Many of which are free. Error messages regarding Active-X controls are not something one should normally see with Dress Shop or MPD. An Active-X control is simply some bit of code used by your browser to display some part of a web page. Dress Shop and MPD use the Internet Explorer browser as a framework and also use Active-X code to draft patterns. Since computer code within a web page may conceivably be hostile, recent browsers include optional security settings to block all Active-X controls, prompt the user when an Active-X control is being used, or simply allow all Active-X controls to run in all cases. These settings are intended for use when visiting web sites online and generally are NOT intended for use with web pages running from your own computer (like Dress Shop and MPD). How your system deals with Active-X controls is controlled by Internet Explorer's security settings (see: Tools - Internet Tools - Security). In checking your account, I see that you have purchased and used Dress Shop software since 2005, with subsequent purchases in 2007 and 2010. I presume therefore, that Dress Shop has worked for you before and this Active-X problem came up recently. You might check what other changes to IE or your other security software were made recently and work with those to resolve the problem. Since this is not a problem with Dress Shop itself, we cannot fix it for you. Doing a quick Google search for Active-X Controls produces numerous postings about this type of problem, including posts about how buggy IE's Active-X controls can be. There are tools that purport to repair IE Active-X controls. I have never used those as my controls have not failed. Nor do I have any recommendations from other Dress Shop users as we have never had such a report before. I hope you can figure out what changed on your computer and how to get around it.... When we open DS, we get the ActiveX error message. When we close it out, DS is a blank lavender screen, except for the rectangle where the model is. File, Size, Options, Design Tools, Help are not available. We can maximize, minimize or close the program. That is it. The problem report was sent on the other computer, since a problem report was unable to be sent on the computer with the active x controls. She had already sent in the problem report on the issue where she cannot print on the other computer, because her patterns all remain inactive. She received a response back on that, and was told to change the adminstrator on her computer, since it was conflicting with the name of her wireless network. I will try a registry cleaner when she returns from being out of town, and I can remote access her computer again.

Hi Pansy, check your IE settings TOOLS>INTERNET Options and make sure to allow active content as I wrote you in a much longer email. Kaaren patrns4u@aol.com

Well, after checking the settings that you had me check, and doing a registry cleaner, it still does not work. Short of wiping the OS on that computer, I do not think we will get it to work. So we are on to trying to get it to work on the laptop, the products don't stay activated? We open DS, click on FILE -> ACTIVATE PRODUCTS. We sign in using her email and password, and it completes activating, then asks you to restart DS. When DS restarts, when you try to load a pattern, it says that it cannot be printed and to activate the pattern or purchase it. It doesn't matter which pattern you try to load. Jessie

Sorry totally out of suggestions run a registry cleaner and disc cleanup. Windows versions from XP,Vista,7 IE7+ , suggest IE8 1 use IE with security allowing active X ( tools System>Internet) 2 turn off firewalls and anti virus 3 download and install the latest version she OWNS 4 activate, do page set up to match selected working printer and set preferences 5 select a chart that you know works 6 draft an Owned pattern I cant suggest anything beyond these things.
