Resource guide for women over 40 ………but you can read it if you are younger

We may have gained 10 lbs per decade over 30 or not- but our bodies do change.

Our belly shapes are often the first area noticed but our spines also change- the tilts to our shoulders, the shape and depth of bust lines and buttocks, the musculature of legs and arms (even if you actually do exercise!) change even if you don’t want them to.

As importantly our mental attitude towards fashion also changes. We have become more thoughtful about what looks good and is worth the time and expense to wear, and less willing to follow some fashion fads but, that does not mean we want to throw away our soaps, and hairbrushes and go live in a cave wearing animal skins or granny shawls.

The mature woman no longer spends her “off hours” in a rocking chair near the kitchen fire- she’s out doing wondrous things- traveling, taking classes, enriching her own and others lives, volunteering in her community, still working outside the home as well as in it. She’s designing her own future with as much thought and care as she spent on organizing her family’s activities when the kids were in school and she was running a home, business and family and if she isn’t- its time to start.

Just cause the kids are off in college or married with their own small kids- doesn’t mean she’s lost one ounce of ability to organize and contribute, nor is she any less nurturing.

WHO she nurtures never did include much time herself- but it’s time to start! This is our time!

Take a prance through some internet sites that feature clothes for US.

Design some clothes that fit and make your own in colors that work for you.
Maybe even, go get a new hair do, maybe even a splurge on a facial and or manicure. You could start with just a bubble bath and maybe tweeze your eyebrows. Fashion and looking good includes feeling good. Good about you as you are now.

So here are just a few internet sites to get you started and motivate- download for full article and links in pdf format.

I had to smile when I saw J Jill listed as I love their clothes, just wish they carried their plus sizes in the stores Frowner. The clothes are simple, classic, elegant and timeless!-----Denise

I say what bobbieann says so much to read but, i do like the new ideas for larger women, and fashion seems to dictate the empire lines quite a bit.

Great comments!!! I wish more women would be accepting of their bodies as they age. They really are a marvelous machines. I sew because I don't always like the fashions and clothing from some of the sites listed are just too long for my proportions. The latest Threads magazine has some great articles that are related to this topic.
