Hello, Kaaren,
I was wondering if you could give us a bit more information about the shirred midriff blouse. I can see how the shirring looks on Mia, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. I checked the instructions, but they're fairly general, and cover pleating, etc. Could you give more detailed instructions? Do you just do gathers in the seams, or all over the midriff panel?
Hope this doesn't sound too confused. Thanks in advance,
Susan

Complex subject to address in a reply post
there are many ways to shirr/gather/ruche or pleat, or even vetical smock. you could even manage shibori in the middles, painting on the ridges.undoing the tight bastin, redoing it so a design appears.

I'm sort of in the midst of a large project and just cant take the time to write an extensive article right now.

We give you the added length you ask for to pull up the extra in gathers, pleats, pinch tucks, pin tucks whatever you like. You can do all your "pinch " at just the sides- so it cowls/drapes in the middles, or split the pinch stitching evenly or unevenly into 3/4/5/6 interim lines.OR you can take up in a random sort of even pinches.like thus pull pinches on some bridal gowns ..

Let your imagination out to play- it can be very controlled and tailored looking or wildly random or geometric. Yoru fabric should tell you what it wants.

DRape some yardage over the back fo a chair and listen carefully over a cup of coffee....ggg

Kaaren,
Thanks. That was very helpful. Tomorrow I may try making a few samples, just to see if I understand.

Another idea for pleating is by machine, wind by hand a bobbin not too tight, then set your machine to a zig zag stitch and sew a test piece, ive done this a long time ago,it does work make sure you tie off the ends securely though, use that elastic that looks rolled very narrow.HTH Smiler Freda
