Hello.

I was just wondering how you all felt about the My Pattern Designer program. I am a "portly" gentleman and I have trouble finding patterns in my size that I like. There are some good ones out there, but the majority of the patterns I like are just a little too small.

I was wondering if it would be worth buying My Pattern Designer. I'd be using it mostly for suit patterns ie. sports coats, 3 piece suits, dressy vests etc... I'd appreciate any feedback from others of a more robust body type.

I don't see any issue using the program. I've worked computer tech most of my life. I'm also not afraid of complicated patterns. I have been sewing as an amateur for over 10 years.

Anyone willing to give me input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
~M~

Disclaimer: I am not a 'portly gentleman' and have never sewn for one!

But, I think the answer might depend on whether or not you enjoy the process. You mention wanting business wear that fits nicely. My opinion...if you just want things that fit you, and you would be happy sewing up the same pattern for 3 different coats, and the finished product is your only goal, then you might be better off finding a couple of commercial patterns and going from there, and then being done.

On the other hand, if you could see yourself making sport coats with different linings, different pockets, coordinating shirts in different styles, maybe slacks and polos for casual fridays, and you enjoy sewing garments, then yes, you'd absolutely love MPD.

I'm sure you can get a good fit, and have a lot of really cool options to put together a very snazzy wardrobe. But I think pattern software is best for people who enjoy the whole process, from designing the garment, to sewing, to experimenting with a new look.

Definatly worth buying!!,I searched everywhere for patterns that FIT.Ive sewn for many years now, and never found RTW fit me in any way without changing things- big time.Whilst surfing, i came across the Livingsoft program a few years back now, instantly i thought THATS what i need!I began with Dress Shop 1st.I then bought MPD,its a fabulous program, ive never looked back or been dissapointed with it.
Were all snowflakes in shape,& RTW doesn't accomodate that aspect in bought clothing.GO for it!! if you enjoy sewing & want to get clothes that do fit.

I think it's worth every dime! Size is not an issue w/ MPD. It will give you a fabulous fit and that can make a person feel like a million bucks! A good fit, in and of itself, is visually slimming whether you're a 2 or a 20+. Once you proof your slopers, the sky is the limit! I sew a variety of basic designs for my lifestyle but if I want to tailor or create something extraordinary, I can cut into an expensive piece of fabric w/ confidence and know my time and efforts won't be wasted...I love that! Sounds like you already have some valuble skills and being fearless is always a plus! Smiler D/L the trial and play. Ask questions, everyone is very helpful and Kaaren gives great classes that are free! Luz
