Friends, with great sadness, we report the peaceful passing of Brenda (Corenzwit) Dobin on December 19, 2012. One of the founders of the DressShop Greater Philadelphia Users' Group (GPUG), Brenda was an integral part of the small group that became the Custom-fit Software SIG of Philadelphia American Sewing Guild.

With notable success, Brenda shared the C-fS goal of using computer software to design and fit garments for a variety of peoples' shapes and sizes. She brought to meetings many samples of her fine craftsmanship - most notably the ”grandmother of the bride” outfit she designed, constructed, and wore in great comfort to that happy event.

Brenda was a stalwart for group presentation, small and large. She shared in-depth knowledge of the software (going back to training events both in Bensalem and in Arlington, TX) and watched with interest as the techniques matured from DressShop 1.5 to the current version 9.08. Always, she shared the group’s goal of using software to replace hand drafting of patterns and to improve the fit of garments she made. One of Brenda’s most satisfying group projects involved creating - in a plaid fabric! - the proper sloper for a tiny elderly lady bent with scoliosis; the process involved different patterns for each side of the front and of the back, bodice and pants.

As Brenda became less able to sew herself, she generously shared her “stash” of fabrics, findings, and yarn. A sweater knit from Brenda’s mother’s collection is on a 12-year-old today; curtains from her fabric grace the living room of a friend’s daughter’s “first house.” Large boxes full of her fabrics and findings went to sewists in a line of small towns ravaged by tornados in Indiana last year.

Services for Brenda will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 23, at Goldstein’s Rosenberg’s Raphael Sacks Suburban North, 310 Second St. Pike, Southampton, PA In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brenda's name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn., Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Phila., PA 19106.

In sadness that we've lost Brenda, but secure in the knowledge that she's with the God she loved and served...
